Principal's Message

The two years I spent as a child at an Intermediate School were the best years of my schooling. I was engaged with my learning, actively involved in the school community and I shed many tears the day I left. This is the experience and memory that we want for the children at Tawa Intermediate.

Creating life-long, self-directed learners is the key goal of our school. Our students are active participants in the learning programme, growing in independence through supportive classroom programmes designed specifically to engage children in this age group.

We support our children to develop academically, culturally, physically and socially. We invite children to participate in a wide range of activities, from our choirs and orchestra to sporting teams and academies for children showing talent in the performing arts and visual art areas. We also offer languages, small group teaching and extension programmes. We believe that it is important for all students to participate in a diverse range of activities.

Intermediate age children are often described as emerging adolescents. It is the first time in their lives that they begin to think beyond their home and family. It is also a time when they undergo great physical, emotional, intellectual and social change. Our very experienced team of adults know how to help students of this age through these interesting times.

We welcome visitors to our school and have a wonderful bunch of ambassadors who delight in showing guests around the school.

At Tawa Intermediate we work hard to build the future. We welcome you to our journey.
