Kia ora! We would like to extend a very warm welcome to the students and families considering enrolling at Tawa Intermediate School.

Tawa Intermediate School is located 15 minutes north of Wellington city and provides education for students in Years 7 and 8 from within the suburb of Tawa and beyond. We currently have a school roll of approximately 500 students.

Our school has a history and reputation that values excellence, diversity, independence and good citizenship.

We believe that our school offers the opportunity for high-quality Year 7 and 8 education in a safe and caring environment.

We are ambitious for our students and ambitious for our school.

Without a doubt the two years at Intermediate have the potential to provide a real highlight in your child’s education.

The emerging adolescent stage requires us as educators to work alongside our students, teach in a way that reinforces our Charter goals of ‘Engage! Grow! Inspire!’ and to relate in a way that keeps everyone’s mana intact.

We have an experienced group of teachers who are enthusiastic, committed and lifelong learners. We take pride in being the best that we can be and instilling that aspiration into the young people who attend our school. The core curriculum areas of literacy and mathematics are key to success as a student.

At our school, these happen daily in our classrooms as we recognize the importance these learning areas have.

Our curriculum offers a breadth of choice and the opportunity for students to explore their special talents via our Academies system. This ranges from sporting to cultural to musical to digital technology.

Tawa Intermediate School has a leading national profile in the field of digital technology. This is backed by creative and talented staff and a stunning school digital infrastructure. We will continue to push the boundaries in this area. Students have the opportunity to bring their own technology and utilise it for their learning.

Tawa Intermediate School is proud to be a positive and contributing member of our community. We have strong links with our contributing schools and with Tawa College, where the majority of our students transition to in Year 9.

It is important that we work closely with our community schools to ensure continuity during student transition between schools. We participate in many community-based activities including the bi-annual schools' music festival.

Our school leadership team is Prisca MacDonald (Principal), Jan Williams (Deputy Principal) and Keith Rickard (Deputy Principal).

We would like to extend to you the invitation to meet with us to discuss any aspects of your child’s enrollment. Please contact the school office to make an appointment. Finally, we look forward to having the opportunity to educate and work alongside your child. We also look forward to developing a partnership with the home as we know we can’t be as effective as we want unless we have your support. It is a pleasure to welcome you to our Intermediate.

Prisca MacDonald
