Tawa Intermediate School Zone

School zoning in New Zealand is governed by the Education and Training Act 2020 (specifically sections 71 to 75 and Schedule 20). 

Those students whose usual place of residence with their legal parent(s) or guardian(s) who live within the home zone described below are entitled to enrol at the school.

Tawa Intermediate School’s normal geographic zone includes:

The Tawa Basin is defined as the suburb of Tawa bounded on the north by the Wellington City boundary, and including the localities of Hampton Hill, Linden, Greenacres, Central Tawa, Redwood, Grenada North, Takapu Valley and Willowbank/Middleton Road as far south as the railway tunnel.

An enrolment form must be completed for each new child to our school. - see ENROL NOW above  The enrolment form requires documentation such as a birth certificate or passport and proof of NZ residence/visa (where applicable).  Please note that we cannot enrol a student without proof of NZ residency through a birth certificate or passport.

You will also need to provide current proof of residence of a property within the home zone. This needs to be one of the following:

• rates notice 
• rates invoice
• tenancy agreement
• power or gas account

with the name of a parent or legal guardian that also includes an address within the home zone, covering the date of enrolment or earlier. 

 

 

Out-of-Zone Enrolments

Applications for enrolments will be processed in the following order of priority:

1. First Priority:  not applicable because the school does not run a special programme approved by the Secretary for Education.
2. Second Priority:  applicants who are siblings of current students.
3. Third Priority:  applicants who are siblings of former students.
4. Fourth Priority:  applicant who is a child of a former student of the school.
5. Fifth Priority:  applicant who is either a child of an employee of the board of the school or a child of a member of the board of the school.
6. Sixth Priority: all other applicants.

If there are more applicants in the second, third, fourth or fifth priority groups than there are places available, selection within the priority group will be by ballot conducted in accordance with the Education and Training Act 2020.
