Learning Dispositions

At TIS, learning is shaped to support, enhance, and provoke the growth of important learning dispositions.  These five dispositions are essential to lifelong success and are vital in a changing and challenging world.

Assessing and reporting on Dispositions

When teachers evaluate a student’s dispositional strengths, they consider the ability of the student to lead their own learning.  Is this student learning what is given to them or do they show initiative? How well do they respond to feedback and strive to improve?  Do they seek to challenge themselves or take the easiest option?

Our school reports reflect the independence and initiative a student applies to their learning within these areas.  

Level 1: Non-learner: opting out of learning (emerging)

Level 2: Beginner learner: taking the easiest option (developing)

Level 3: Performance Learner: doing your best, not getting better (‘is this right?”) (consolidating)

Level 4: Directed learner: learning but not learners (proficient)

Level 5: Independent learners: taking charge of learning (exceeding)

 

These levels are reflected in the number of segments coloured for each of the five Learning Dispositions, as illustrated in the example below:

In the example above, the student is Level 5 for Learning Habits, Level 3 for Communication, and Level 1 for Critical Thinking
